If you are not yet a student at the Department of Mathematics but are considering applying, you might first want to read about our courses and programmes, and practical information for new and prospective students.

Late application for courses autumn 2020

Application for courses in the autumn of 2020 has now closed. Courses that open for late application will do so from 15 July at the earliest. Apply via or

Note that all our courses are currently marked as closed for late application on and This does not mean that they will not open, only that they are not open just now. Unlike courses at some other universities, courses at Stockholm University are never marked as "will open for late application [date]". This is because universities have different systems for course administration.

Register for courses

To keep you place on a course, you must register for the course online. You may need to activate your university account first.

Online registration for courses usually opens a few weeks before the beginning of the semester. Please be aware that for some courses online registration is only open for a week or two. Dates for online registration will be available on this page at the beginning of August.

Online registration for thesis projects

If you are admitted to a thesis project in mathematical statistics (at bachelor or master level), you must register for that course online.

For other thesis projects online registration is not possible, instead we register you after your project plan has been accepted.

Register for exams

If you want to take a written exam, you must sign up for it in advance no later than one week before the exam date.

More information on examinations, rules and sign-up. In particular, note that you must be able to show a valid photo ID at the time of the exam, that you must be registered on the current term to be able to sign up for the exam, and that it is no longer possible to take exams without having signed up for them.


If you have previously been registered for a course but did not complete it during that term, you will need to re-register in order to complete the course. Please contact the student affairs office for information.

Exchange studies

Students at the Department of Mathematics at Stockholm University have the possibility to study one or two semesters abroad. Please be aware that this takes some time to organise, so plan ahead.
